The diminishing number of vocational students stems from various factors, including a declining birth rate, an aging population, and the perception that higher education offers better prospects. Furthermore, a significant challenge faced by vocational education is the scarcity of available internship opportunities, exacerbating the decrease in student enrollment.

Alarming Situation and Urgent Calls

The MBO Council also expressed grave concerns about the situation at the end of last year, highlighting the indispensable role of skilled professionals in vital sectors of society. Despite efforts to promote vocational education positively, student numbers have plummeted by over 30,000 since 2020.
