In a picturesque setting on the outskirts of Putten-Zuid, nature enthusiasts and supporters of cancer research gathered for an invigorating journey through the rural landscapes of Hell, Hoef, and Huinen. This memorable winter hike, organized by team Gelderse Grinta’s under the banner of BIG Challenge, aimed to raise funds for cancer research while promoting community spirit.
The event unfolded on Saturday, February 15th, with hundreds of participants embarking on a 10.5-kilometer trek that led them through the charming hamlets and serene surroundings of Putten-Zuid. As they traversed the rolling countryside, walkers encountered quaint farmsteads, meandered through a cow shed, and passed by expansive farmlands enveloped in the tranquility of the winter season.
The picturesque route meandered along rustic pathways and traditional wooden clog paths, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Halfway through their journey, hikers found respite at Van Emous in the bucolic Huinen, savoring a rejuvenating break with a choice of coffee, tea, or refreshing lemonade.
The starting and ending point of the hike was the Melktap on Broekermolenweg, serving as a communal hub where participants convened before and after their expedition. Post-hike, attendees relished the warmth of camaraderie over hearty servings of traditional Dutch pea soup, reflecting on their shared experiences amidst the idyllic rural backdrop of Putten-Zuid.
Beyond the physical exertion and scenic delights, the winter hike bore a greater purpose. Through their collective efforts, participants not only challenged themselves but also contributed to the fight against cancer by raising crucial funds for cancer research initiatives. Every step taken and every donation made during the event symbolized a commitment to hope, solidarity, and progress in the battle against this pervasive disease.
